About the Client

BattGenie was started from the labs of Prof. Venkat Subramanian at the University of Washington. With offices and lab space in Seattle and Austin, and an all-star team with over 100 years of cumulative experience in the energy storage technologies, BattGenie is changing the landscape of clean energy with a new paradigm of software. BattGenie has access to a sophisticated state-of-the-art battery testing equipment including high current and high voltage battery and battery-module cyclers at Seattle and Austin.

BattGenie provides software solutions for battery management systems (BMS). BMSs are electronic control circuits that monitor the battery’s internal states (such as State of Charge (SoC) or simply how much charge is left in the battery) and regulate the battery’s charging. If you have a rechargeable battery powering up a device or electric vehicle near you, you’ll surely find a BMS there.

Battgenie’s target audience includes C-level, R&D and engineers in many companies and sectors, including B2B companies, car manufacturers (like Tesla, BMW, Tata, Volkswagen, Ford), cell phone manufacturers, laptops, cameras & robot manufacturers, large commercial complexes, grid storage, electric vehicles, consumer products, chip manufacturers and so on.

Client Needs

Our client came to us with 3 requirements – Firstly, to rebrand and give a new, differentiated identity in the minds of consumers, investors, competitors, and other stakeholders. Bring all these elements of research to the content strategy that will define the tone of voice of the brand and make it visible and heard through website design, development and more. But most of all, simplification of information that goes out to the target audience.

Challenges

One big challenge we faced was “Understanding Battgenie and the technology behind it”. This part had our best minds for brainstorming, simplifying and breaking information down for our designers to understand and work on the solution. We had to simplify it for ourselves before we could simplify it for everyone else.

Solution

Our minds were set on one goal – “Communicating complex ideas in a simple yet impactful way”. Our teams interacted with the client to understand their technologies, and with the information received and after simplification of the same, we decided to present the business case on the Homepage in a way that would evoke curiosity about Battgenie’s solution. The technical information presented on the Technology page would help the engineers and R&D teams perform due diligence and validate the claim. The entire team applied thought and channelised their mindset towards simplification, complex information was broken down and made simple & understandable, complicated sketches were made into beautiful easy to understand illustrations, everything ultimately placed properly on this website canvas, to look like a simple, minimalistic yet expressive work-of-art that everyone loved and understood.

Our client kept saying, “It is easy to see the magic happen, but very difficult to understand how the magic happens”. We took that to heart and really wanted to show the magic behind the scenes. We think we did.
